Orbital Precedence
Finding: A dog was the first Earth-born being to achieve orbital flight.
- On November 3, 1957, a dog named Laika orbited Earth aboard Sputnik 2.
- Human orbital flight (Yuri Gagarin) did not occur until April 12, 1961 — nearly four years later.
